Medhin Tewolde Serrano

Director / Mexico Medhin Tewolde Serrano, an Eritrean-Mexican filmmaker in Chiapas, focuses on participatory video and community communication in several countries. Through this work, she explores her Afro-descendant identity and directs her first feature-length documentary, “Negra”. Inspired by the little-known story of Afro-Mexican hero Gaspar Yanga, she created the animated short film “Nyanga”, which pays homage to the past and present cimarronaje.

His research is interested in how colonial sites of memory, related to the Herero genocide, influence everyday life in Namibia.

He recently completed his first short film ‘Angie’s Love’ in 2023 and is currently developing his first feature film. In 2020, Bayo launched N’ihu Media, an online platform that develops and curates content showcasing overlooked aspects of life in Africa through documentaries, news stories and candid interviews.

Nancy Mac Granaky-Quaye

Director / Germany Nancy Mac Granaky-Quaye studied film directing at international filmschool in Cologne, Germany. Since then she worked as director, writer, editor and image mixer. In these functions she has mixed music shows like MTV unplugged, directed reports, music videos, advertising, shortfilms and documentaries. Also she worked as programmer and curator for Afrika Film Festival Cologne, which was awarded as best cultural event in 2019.

Juan Mejia Botero

Director / Colombia Award-winning filmmaker with 25 years of experience in feature documentaries and documentary series. Throughout his career he has focused primarily on community filmmaking and collaborative activist documentaries about struggles for justice around the world. His feature film, Igualada, will have its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in 2024.
